Signs Your Car Needs a New Paint Job

Posted By in Maintenance Tips | No Comments »

The paint job on your vehicle is one of the determining factors of its overall value, but it’s also one of those things that won’t need replacing too often. Most car owners make it through the entire life of their vehicle without having it repainted.

Paint Job

However, if you have a strong attachment to your vehicle like so many others and want to keep it looking beautiful all the time, there are times when a new paint job is a good idea.

The Paint Has Faded

Logically, faded paint is not a welcomed sign on any vehicle. It will make your car look dull and lifeless and since it is probably occurring in a limited area, it may also look blotchy. Fading happens when the pain loses its vibrant colour and richness.

Much of the time, the vehicle owner doesn’t even notice anything going on. This is because they are always with the car and simply don’t notice the gradual transition. Take a look at photos from when you first had your car and compare them to its current state. This will give you a new perspective on the state of your paint.

Peeling Paint

Usually, your car’s paint will fade before it peels, but not all the time. If you notice the paint peeling from the basecoat in any areas, it is time for a new paint job. Since faded paint can be so difficult to notice, you may see the peeled paint before any fading becomes apparent.

Some of the common signs of peeling paint include paint chips flaking off and bubbles in the paint. If you take the time to get your car professionally waxed on a regular basis, the likelihood of peeling paint is greatly reduced.

Serious Scratches

Serious scratches in your current paint job is also a sign that you might need a new one. It’s not uncommon for some scratches to be buffed out with a high speed polisher, but this isn’t always possible.

If the scratches are particularly deep and won’t leave with the polisher, a new paint job is in order. One or two scratches won’t necessitate a new paint job, even if they are deep ones. It is when there are numerous scratches that the subject of repainting usually comes up.

Just remember to have any new paint job performed by a professional provider with a proven track record for providing great results.
