How To Dewinterize Your Car

Posted By in Maintenance Tips | No Comments »

Now that winter is finally over, there are some steps that you can take to get your life on track for spring. One of these is likely going to be getting your car ready for the spring. Spring car maintenance is pretty easy, but there are a few things that you should know when getting your vehicle ready for the new season. Below are some tips for dewinterizing your car.
How To Get Your Car Ready For The Spring

Wash It

The last thing that most people think about is standing outside and washing their car while it is minus 15 degrees outside. This means that once the warm weather hits, you are going to be washing off the built up dirt and grime of months. This caked on dirt and grime can actually damage your paint job, so be sure to wash your car as soon as the warm weather hits.

Take It to the Car Wash, or Drive It over a Sprinkler

Much of the winter dirt and grime that is going to be all over your car come spring isn’t even going to be visible. It’s going to be on the bottom on your vehicle and hard to reach. The best plan to remove the dirt, grime, salt, etc. from underneath your vehicle is to either take it to a car wash, to make sure it gets a thorough cleaning, or drive it slowly and carefully over a sprinkler a few times.

Replace Your Wiper Blades

This is an important maintenance, as well as safety step, especially if you have come out of a really bad, long, snowy winter. A lot of movement back and forth, especially moving heavy snow out of the way, can really damage your wipers. Spring car maintenance means making sure that your car is safe to drive during the spring. You might need to go out and pick up a new pair of wiper blades.

Get Your Tires Realigned

The roads are usually in their absolute worst shape of the year during the winter, and poor roads take a toll on your car’s wheels, alignment, etc. In fact, people often find that their steering is completely misaligned after the winter. This can become incredibly dangerous once the spring weather sets in, and road conditions become wet and unpredictable. Take your vehicle in to get the tires realigned, or rotated if need be.

Now that the warm weather is here and you are going to be driving your vehicle a lot more, maybe even long distances on vacations and road trips, you want to make sure that everything is working properly and your car is safe to drive. Keep the above spring maintenance tips in mind and ensure that your car, and more importantly, you and your family, are safe this spring.
